Anna Mathis :: Two Fall 2019 Workshops at the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival

Last year’s bursary winner, Anna Mathis will be giving two workshops: Fantastic Felted Vessel Workshop and Reversible Nuno Felted Shawl Workshop at the 11th annual Nova Scotia Fibre Festival which runs October 15-19, 2019 in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
This unique festival is a world class celebration of the fibre arts and its culture. The festival offers events and workshops that celebrate and showcase creativity, quality workmanship, and encourage participation for learning and sharing.
Fantastic Felted Vessel Workshop
Date: Saturday October 19 Time: 1:00pm-4:30pm Place: Masonic Hall – 20 Lawrence St. Cost: : $65 + $20 material fee
Workshop Description: Skill Level: Beginner
Spend the afternoon sculpting, shaping and designing a one-of-a-kind wet felted vessel! Using hand-dyed sheep’s wool, soap, water and elbow grease, we will learn fun and creative ways to design with felt. We will be learning about resists, and creating a multi-layered project, experimenting with colour, and felting 3D objects. This class will be jam packed with designing and creating extravagant and unique vessels! Participants will complete a vessel using resists, hand-dyed wool, and wet felting techniques.
Reversible Nuno Felted Shawl Workshop
Date: Friday October 18 Time: 9:00am-4:00pm Place: McIssac Darragh Board Room – 11 Princess St. Cost: Cost: $95 + $35 material fee
Workshop Description: Skill Level: Immediate
In this full day workshop we will be combining hand-dyed silk and merino wool to create a one of a kind felted shawl! We will discuss designing techniques, considering the front and back of the piece, as well as good felting practices. Spend the morning laying out our project and the afternoon rockin’ and rolling and fulling our felt! This fast-paced course is best suited for those with some previous felting experience.
Anna Mathis is an international award winner for her textile designs and has shown and sold her work in galleries across Canada. She teaches Textiles and Entrepreneurship at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and travels to teach textile workshops around the Maritimes. You can find her at various fiber festivals including TWIST, in Quebec, the Maritime Spinners retreat, and the Nova Scotia Fiber Arts Festival. Anna is passionate about sharing her craft and selling fiber arts kits, tutorials and supplies as well as wearable art.
