Exhibitions :: Felting on the Edge :: Changes

Update on the planned felt :: feutre canada exhibition

Felting on the Edge :: Made in Canada

Little did we know that when we proposed the Felting on the Edge theme for the 2020 exhibition we would all be “living on the edge” due to the COVID-19 outbreak. With the cancellation of the Symposium in August 2020, the felt :: feutre canada Executive and Exhibition Committee have been working to determine the best path forward for the exhibition.

We want to be respectful of the time that members have already invested in making pieces for the exhibition, but also be realistic about what is doable and appropriate under the existing conditions. We are mindful that, if there was ever a time to need community and stay connected, this is definitely it. We also know that continuing to be creative on our own terms can be a very important coping mechanism.

We have discussed a number of options and decided that it is best to defer the Felting on the Edge Exhibition until the next symposium. We felt it was the most respectful way to celebrate and honor the hard work that Canadian feltmakers put into their exhibition pieces, by being able to display and see their work in a gallery setting as was originally intended.

However, in the meantime, we want to seize this as an opportunity to strengthen our community and keep members engaged with felting. We are working out the details of another option to the exhibition that we are excited about. More information will be shared with you soon! Our emphasis will be on being inclusive and supportive while avoiding becoming another pressure in this already stressful world.

Thank you very much for your patience in this very challenging time. We are all disappointed that we won’t be able to come together as a community at the Symposium. Stay tuned for ways to stay connected with our fellow members and keep on felting during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

felt :: feutre canada Executive and Exhibition Committee
